Monaco

Despite its prodigious wealth, Monaco is far from being the French Riviera’s prettiest town. World-famous Monte Carlo is basically an ode to concrete and glass, dominated by high-rise hotels, super yachts and apartment blocks that rise into the hills like ranks of dominoes, plunked into an utterly bewildering street layout seemingly designed to confound lowly pedestrians.

In dramatic contrast, the rocky outcrop known as Le Rocher, jutting out on the south side of the port, is crowned by a rather charming old town, home to the principality’s royal palace. Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat is an area of unspoilt natural beauty with exquisite views of the Mediterranean at every turn – no wonder Hollywood icons past and present have been unable to stay away. This is our interesting playground. Let’s get lost…

CAPTIVATING COTE D’AZUR

Our fabulous jaunt in the South of France will be spent on the Cote d’Azur in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat . We will head to the legendary palace hotel, Grand Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat for a three-night stay. Perched high on the peninsula, overlooking the dazzling Mediterranean and surrounded by a quintessentially French pine grove, Grand Hôtel is the pinnacle of luxury.
It is home to a Michelin starred restaurant, a seawater infinity pool and beautifully manicured gardens, making it the romantic hideaway we all dream of visiting. Only a short 30 minute journey away are the lavish cities of Monaco and Cannes, either of which is certainly worth a visit on our penultimate day in France. However, if we’d rather explore the peninsula of Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat it boasts stunning views of the Mediterranean that we can marvel at on a hike. You can try to get me to do it, but no promises. For the art aficionado in us Villa Santo Sospir, home of Francine Weisweiller, has walls adorned with murals and mosaics by Jean Cocteau so why not head there for a tour and dinner to end our day at leisure?
On our last full day in the South of France, I have something extra special planned. After breakfast, we will be whisked away to the Port of Nice where we will board a private yacht and set sail to explore the Riviera in style. Once out on the waves, we turn around and take in the idyllic sight of pristine white boats bobbing on the tide, back-lit by the colorful villas of Nice. In the distance, we take in the unparalleled beauty of the French Riviera’s historic villages perched on hilltops, set against a brilliant blue sky. On our private yacht cool off from the heat of the sun with a quick dive into the sea’s rolling azure waves and feel the hours slip by as we bask in the glamour of the Cote d’Azur. Quelle magnifique.
Departing from Nice Airport the following day with a South of France glow to our skin, a belly full of wine and a mind full of wonderful memories. La vie est vraiment belle.

Grand Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat Perched proudly on the Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat peninsula amongst a forest of pine trees, Grand Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat is a veritable icon of the Cote d’Azur. An opulent 74 room palace hotel that exudes classic French glamour, it’s easily one of the chicest spots to rest our head on the Riviera. Wandering its perfectly manicured gardens and dining at its Michelin starred restaurant; we'll discover a true sense of ‘la vie est belle’.
